PRESIDENT GRANGER CHATS VENEZUELA TERRITORIAL ISSUES WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA

President David Granger had a very productive meeting with President Barack Obama at the White house on Friday June 12, 2015. High on the agenda was the perennial dispute between Guyana and Venezuela. Since the completion of the recent election cycle in Guyana, Venezeula, at the goading of the losing PPP, has renewed its territorial claim to the entire Essequibo Region and delta which is rich in gold, timber and holds significant offshore oil reserve. Brazil has also put Guyana on notice to reclaim land on the southern border.

On Wednesday last, parliament was convened and the PPP refused to show up. Instead they picketed outside of GECOM headquarters in Kingston much to the dismay of the Civic faction of the party. A prominent citizen, who prefers to remain anonymous, said that his understanding of elections and campaigning is that it should end after the official count has been announced. He also expressed disgust at the PPP claiming that Jagdeo may have demitted office and never gave up powers. The problem is of him still suffering a hangover having lost the elections.
