HENRY PIG … A NEW YEAR LABEL

In the People’s Republic of Victoria every native son had a false name. Henry came from a very prominent family and it was tantamount to a criminal offense to desecrate the family image and prestige by calling the children and offspring nick names until a certain incident on New Year’s Day, 1960.

Like clockwork every New Year’s Day Tom Charles and the Syncopators had a permanent annual arrangement with the adult men in Victoria to play and perform at their two-tier New Year’s Day picnic and ball. The picnic would normally start at 2.00pm and end around 7.00pm and the ball would start at 9.00pm until the wee hours of the morning.           Continue reading
