THE  EXCEPTIONAL  MR. GEORGE  BARCLAY

        By  Hubert  Williams

Boston, Massachusetts, September 30, 2015  — From  the very beginning, George Barclay was an exceptional journalist, despite being among such reputed high-flyers as Leo Small, Rickey Singh, Julian Mendes, Kester Alves, Albert Alstrom, George Baird, Godfrey Wray, Herman Singh, Wordsworth Mac Andrew, Hubert Williams, John Agard, Joan Cambridge, Claudette Earle, Patricia De Freitas, Sibille Hart, and others.

George’s particular exceptionalism was matched by just one other member of staff in the editorial department of the then Guyana Graphic Ltd. on Lama Avenue, Bel Air Park, Georgetown, which published daily and Sunday newspapers.

Of all the many outstanding operatives who strove with skill and courage to produce what I still rate as Guyana’s best ever newspaper (certainly the most courageous and financially successful), only George Barclay and Eleazar Watson (later promoted News Editor) had learnt the skill of Pitman’s and  Gregg’s…

THINGSIFIED GARY BEST JUMPS SHIP TO APNU/AFC

The thingification of Guyanese by the Jagdeo-Ramotar administration is forcing some thingsifsied recipients to make some hard and awkward choices. Word on the street is that May 5th is Indian Arrival Day and May 12th, has been designated Indian Departure Day as a new government and party takes control and re-align the people to values and virtues.

Cabinet Secretary and principal henchman of the PPP, Dr Roger Luncheon cannot believe it is not butter Luncheon feels betrayed by Commodore Gary Best after having been the recipient of several things and gifts from the PPP: an enhanced pension, promotion, housing adjoining the compound of former President Jagdeo et al.

Best has been welcomed with open arms within the fold of APNU/AFC and this new development seems to have sent shock waves in several quarters locally and overseas.  Continue reading

Nose blind Ramsammy ducks out from country

By Waltie Ainsworth

Over the Phagwah holiday weekend, reports from Georgetown suggests that prominent PPP central executive member and Minister of Agriculture, Dr Leslie Ramsammy duck out of the country to New York with no immediate plans to return.

Word on the street is that the former Health Minister did not realise the brutal and unbalanced relationship that the party he embraces has with the Guyanese populace. His excuse for leaving is that he has a heart condition, but dem boy seh it more look like nose blind.

Another comrade of similar ilk, Robert Persaud, currently Mines and Environment Minister, has been charged with new responsibilities by former president Bharrat Jagdeo. Robert has to scrub all emails and electronic communication and delete all evidence that points to corruption, graft and drug related offences between and among the Government, Army, central executives and private citizens.  Continue reading
