Why are donkeys facing their ‘biggest ever crisis’?

The world’s donkeys are facing a population crisis because of the huge demand for their skins in China, where they are used to make health foods and traditional medicine.

Donkey meat is also a popular food, but a huge drop in the number of Chinese donkeys and the fact they are slow to reproduce, has forced suppliers to look elsewhere.

Africa has been badly hit because the animals are such an important part of life for transport and farming – particularly in poorer communities.

REV. OSCAR AGARD PASSES ON IN OTTAWA CANADA

 Obituary for Rev. William Oscar Agard

D.O.B. 6th March 1924 – D.O.D 27th September 2017. Age 93 years. He was the husband of the late Waveney Enid Agard, father of Brenda Saul (Desmond), William Jnr. (Valerie), Dr. E. Joy Mighty, Keith (Nolma) and Dr. Carolanne Aaron. Predeceased by brothers Eric, Eldon, Basil, Ewalt and Trenton. He was also grandfather of eleven and great grand father of fourteen.

Formerly Permanent Secretary at the Ministries of Education and Works & Hydraulics in Guyana. He was a priest in the Anglican diocese where he rose to level of Archdeacon in Guyana. He also served as a priest at St. Helen’s in Ottawa, St. Michael’s and All Angels, St. Stephens and padre of several veterans associations in Toronto as well as honorary assistant priest at Christ Church Cataraqui in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. 

A memorial service will be held for him at the St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church at 2345 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1H 7M6 on Saturday October 7, 2017 at 2 pm.
