GT CULTURE-VULTURES GAIN STICKMAN OSCARS
By Waltie Ainsworth
After a prolonged absence of more than two decades, a dance troupe from the Guyana National School of Dance is performing
in New York for the Labor Day festivities. And as part of the annual celebrations the Guyana Cultural Association awarded some 18 of its esteemed artists with special awards.
Topping the list of awardees was Ms Claire Goring of Solo fame and brain. Claire Ann is a native of Victoria and has been with the GCA since its inception in 2001 and is currently working on establishing an Art and Culture Centre for young artists in the Diaspora.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall and among the guests was the newly appointed Consul General to the tri-state community of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, Ms Barbara Atherly.
Former GM of the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation, Ms Ave Brewster Haynes chaired the proceedings. And culture vulture Jeggae and a freshly minted troupe of drummers and flautists, brought the curtains down with some jerk-yuh-waist and wine folk anthems much to the delight of the full house activity.
