Veteran Guyanese journalist, Courtney Gibson, died late Sunday night in the
United States (US) after a recent battle with cancer, family members said.

He was in his early 60s. He succumbed at a hospice in Tampa, Florida.

Before travelling to the United States for medical treatment, he had been
serving for several decades as the Editor-in-Chief of St. Maarten’s Daily Herald
newspaper.

In Guyana, he was the Bureau Chief for the Caribbean News Agency now the
Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC). Prior to that appointment, he had served as
Editor-in-Chief of the state-owned Guyana Chronicle newspaper.

While at the Government Information Service in the late 70s and 80s, Gibson was
chosen along with other young, bright, vibrant colleagues at that entity by then
Minister of Information, Frank Campbell and Chief Information Officer, Allan
Fenty to serve as Information Officers at the Guyana Embassy in London.
