10 through to Banks Senior Calypso Final

Following is the result of the 2013 Banks Senior Calypso Semi-final Competition that was held Saturday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.

The turnout was poor, largely due to the inclement.weather.

The 10 finalists will be vying for the crown to unseat the reigning Calypso Monarch, Young Bill Rogers,  next Friday at Demerara Park opposite Thirst Park, East Bank Demerara.

A patriotic, urbane and distinguished Guyanese is now lying on a hospital bed  as a recovering victim of a callous, brutal and vicious attack on his person and on his family by four ‘youth men’, one of whom reportedly shouted “Police”, before launching their assault.

Mr. Oscar Clarke, former Regional Chairman, Minister of Government and Diplomat and the current General Secretary of the People’s National Congress Reform, has been my colleague and friend for over four decades. Our paths have crossed frequently here in Guyana and on assignments in Cuba and East Africa. He is one of the most respected men I have known.  Continue reading
