MANHATTAN FUNERAL FOR HUGH

Deceased broadcast pioneer and international Public Servant Guyanese Hugh Cholmondeley will be funeralised on Friday August 17, 3.00 pm at the TILMAN CHAPEL.  The Chapel is located at 777 United Nations Plaza, Manhattan, NY NY.

A memorial service will be held in Guyana at a later date.

Hugh started his sterling career in Georgetown and was a leading broadcaster in the era leading up to Guyana’s Independence in 1966.  The Guyana Press Association is among scores of regional and international outfits paying tribute at his passing and referred to his contribution as both legendary and exemplary.

Hugh became the first General Manager of GBS  in 1968 before taking up leading-hand positions  at CBU  and  CANA. He also had an extensive and impressive tour of duty with the United Nations.

Mr. Cholmondeley died in New York on August 10, 2012 after a brief illness and treatment.  He was 73 and is survived by his wife and four adult children.

    The Edinboro family extends its deepest sympathy to the Cholmondeleys world-wide, and in particular to his wife Mari Anne on their loss. Hugh was a great entertainer. He was tall, and is still standing tall.

  5. We are truly saddened lo learn about the passing of Mr. Hugh Cholmondeley. On behalf of my family and I, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Mari Ann Cholmondeley, his children, relatives, brothers Keith and Colin etc.

    Hugh was an extremely talented person with foresight beyond his years. His contribution has certainly made a difference to the world, as well as people who dealt with him. Hugh you will be missed by us all.
