Dennis Humphrey

Dennis Humphrey, a former Guyana national soccer star and a hot item on the social scene in Ottawa, Canada will be laid to rest over this coming weekend.  His life has been compromised even though he had put up a gallant battle; his death was swift but not unexpected as he was diagnosed terminally ill with an exceptionally rare form of cancer.

Dennis was an immigrant of sheer class and nuff-styles.  Tantalise was his shtick.  He always took control and was extremely knowledgeable and braggadocio about sports and international politics.  He always cautioned those he rubbed shoulders with to “think outside of the box.  Do not find me obtrusive that he may be thinking as we speak inside the box

Tantalize was his thing irrespective of the prevailing weather conditions, time of day or good company that he kept.

Last September he spent a weekend as an honorable and honoured guest of my immediate family.  He got lost once or twice in negotiating the New Jersey traffic but did not complain or explain.  Dennis bagged the experience as “finding the place from a new and different angle.”

He leaves to mourn his wife Franka and son Esrom.  He also has two sisters who live in Toronto and a trailer-load of sincere and genuine friends from every strata, every suggested age group, territory, ethnicity, color, gender, class and rage.

Dennis was a disciple of his brisk Guyanese heritage

To have lived, loved and died was his sport an extreme privilege

Dennis always boasted of his community a global village

And worked hard at cultivating yards of content and avoid spillage

Dennis was known more for his deeds and courage in a cold zone

He had a heart that was kind and a gentle tone

Dennis led a team of crack ball players from Campbelville his home

He was quick on his feet sharp on the tongue and tolerant in person or on the phone

A higher power beckons you Mister and Master Dennis

Surrender you did not in spite of threats of invasive surgery and dialysis

You made it thru green pastures and found a path so others can exist

THANKS!  Be resolute be strong be all you can be fare thee well Dennis
